Winnipeg police have laid a second-degree murder charge against a man who officers shot in mid-October.

Investigators found a woman’s body after they were called to a home at about 8 a.m. on Oct. 18 for a reported domestic incident.

They also found a man at the residence, who was shot by an officer after a confrontation with police.

Emergency services then brought the man to hospital.

The woman whose body was found inside the home has been identified as 48-year-old Karen Jane Letniak of Winnipeg.

Police say her death was the result of a homicide, and 26-year-old Cody Don Saunders has been charged with second-degree murder, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
