An officer at Brandon Correctional Centre was injured last Sunday after an alleged assault by a 21-year-old inmate.
Brandon police say following the assault, the inmate caused damage to the unit where he was being held, including throwing furniture and food.
The officer suffered “extensive” injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. Police arrived and found the situation had been contained by other correctional officers.
The inmate was arrested Wednesday while already in custody and will appear in Brandon court today. He faces charges of aggravated assault of a peace officer and mischief to property over $5,000.
The officer was released from hospital and is recovering.
