Discount air carrier Swoop has launched five new direct flights from Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport.
The WestJet-owned airline will fly directly from the city to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Los Cabos, Las Vegas and Tampa.
The inaugural flights took off Friday from Winnipeg to Las Vegas and Orlando. Flights to the other three destinations will begin on Saturday and Sunday.
“This weekend marks an exciting milestone for Winnipeg travellers, gaining access to more destinations across North America at an affordable price,” said Steven Greenway, president, Swoop.
“Swoop’s growing network offers more flights to popular destinations at an ultra-low fare for all Canadians to enjoy.”
Flights are available for booking now through to April 2020.
“With Swoop adding more routes, it shows they are confident in Winnipeg as a place to grow their business,” said Dayna Spiring, president and CEO, Economic Development Winnipeg Inc.
“These additional international flights make it easier for visitors to make their way to Winnipeg. We look forward to welcoming tourists from or connecting through these destinations to check out our world-class attractions, meet our friendly people and discover what Winnipeg has to offer.”
Our partnership with Swoop continues to grow. In July of 2018, we teamed up to offer one non-stop flight to Hamilton and today we celebrate 11 destinations. The five new routes starting today include Las Vegas, Los Cabos, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa. @flyswoop pic.twitter.com/TI4H4b0qbC
