WINNIPEG — A 16-year-old boy remains in hospital in critical condition after being shot by police on Thursday.

Officers were responding to a robbery call at the 7-Eleven at the corner of Ellice Avenue and Arlington Street just after 5:30 p.m. when they encountered the teen armed with a knife.

Police ordered the suspect to drop the knife multiple times, but he ignored demands and advanced towards police. Videos posted to social media showed the teen raising his hand up as be walked towards an officer, who then opened fire.

The teen remains in critical, but stable condition in hospital.

One officer suffered injuries to his extremity but has been treated and released from hospital.
