ARBORG, Man. — RCMP have laid a drunk driving charge after a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor, killing the man who was operating it in Manitoba’s Interlake region.
Police say a 59-year-old man was operating the tractor on Road 130 North, roughly six kilometres east of Arborg, Man., on Saturday evening when the truck came up at a high speed.
The man was ejected from the machine and pronounced dead on site.
The 50-year-old driving the pickup was not injured, but he faces charges including impaired operation of a conveyance causing death.
He’s been released with numerous conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police say the investigation will include a thorough examination of the tractor to determine if proper working lights were in use at the time, noting the lack of visibility may have been a factor.
