RCMP arrested a man Friday night after they received information that threats had been made on social media towards a school in Vita, Manitoba.

Emerson RCMP attended Shevchenko School just before 8 p.m. and placed the school on lockdown. A basketball game was taking place in the school’s gymnasium at the time.

Police followed up on several tips over the next two hours and located a suspect.

The 19-year-old man, from the RM of Stuartburn, was a former student of the school. He’s facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon and uttering threats.

The suspect remains in custody and RCMP continue to investigate.
