Winnipeg-based Bold Commerce is expanding south of the border and opening up an office in Austin, Texas.

The technology company, which specializes in developing apps for the Shopify platform, plans to hire 40 new team members to staff its U.S. office by the end of 2020.

“The Austin tech market has grown by 25 percent over the past five years and is now also home to many tech giants, including Google, Facebook, Oracle, and Apple. It is the ideal location for a fast-growing company like ours,” said Yvan Boisjoli, CEO of Bold Commerce.

“We are ready to embrace all that Austin has to offer as we fuel our growth and continue to attract great talent.”

The U.S. office will be led by Mike Sanchez, who Bold has appointed as its first chief revenue officer. Sanchez has more than 15 years of experience in enterprise software sales and has held leadership roles with WP Engine, BigCommerce, and Rackspace.

Bold Commerce raised $22 million in Series A funding from Whitecap Venture Partners and Round13 Capital earlier this year. Bold anticipates that it will surpass 350 employees in its Winnipeg headquarters by the end of 2019.
