WINNIPEG — Christine Kolbuck has committed to staying at home to begin her university sports career.
The Transcona Collegiate volleyball player has signed a letter of intent with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen for the 2020-21 season.
The 6-foot middle blocker joins setter Breanne Bazin as the first members of the 2020 recruiting class.
“I was looking for options to stay within Manitoba and it just seemed like I’d be a fit here,” Kolbuck said.
“I started (looking) outside of Winnipeg. I was talking to some coaches in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, some in Alberta.
Kolbuck was named a graduating all-star in the A-AA-AAA class of Manitoba high school volleyball, represented the Winnipeg region at the 2016 Manitoba Games and was a 15U provincial all-star in 2017.
She will enroll in the Faculty of Science and have five years of eligibility remaining.
