Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWinnipeg has set a record for the most homicides in a single year after the death of a man at 506 Pritchard Avenue.

Douglas Wood, 41, was found in critical condition after a fire the night of October 31. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police arrested Jenna Sereena Kakegamick, 23, in the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue on Tuesday.

Investigators have determined both people were acquaintances and had been socializing at the residence when a confrontation occurred. Kakegamick later started a fire, leaving the victim unable to escape, according to police.

She remains in custody on charges of second-degree murder and arson with disregard for human life.

The previous record for most homicides in a year was in 2011, when 41 were recorded.
