What’s Open and Closed Over the Holidays in Winnipeg

Merry Christmas

The holidays are a time to get together with loved ones and friends and celebrate the spirit of the season. As many take time off from work, school and their everyday schedules, many city services are also taking a break.

Here’s what’s open, closed or operating with reduced hours in Winnipeg on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Shopping Centres

  • Kildonan Place — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Open Boxing Day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Grant Park — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Open Boxing Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. & New Year’s Eve: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Open Boxing Day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • St. Vital Centre — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. & New Year’s Eve: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Open Boxing Day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Polo Park — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. & New Year’s Eve: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Open Boxing Day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Manitoba Liquor Marts

December 24: — All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg will open at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
December 25 — All Manitoba Liquor Marts will be closed.
December 26 — All Manitoba Liquor Marts will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
December 31 — All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon will open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., except for the Reenders (Express) and Cityplace locations, which will close at 6 p.m.
January 1 — All Manitoba Liquor Marts will be closed.

Canadian Museum for Human Rights

December 24 — Closed
December 25 — Closed
January 1 — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Manitoba Museum

December 21 to 23 — Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
December 24 — Open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
December 25 — Closed
December 26, 2019 — January 5, 2020 — Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Assiniboine Park Zoo

Open daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but closed on Christmas Day

The Park Café — Open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Closed Christmas Day
The Pavilion — Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Closed Christmas Day

City of Winnipeg Civic Offices

All civic offices are closed at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, and closed all day on Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2019. Civic offices will also be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

Recycling and garbage collection will not be collected on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If your collection day falls on or after these days, please put your carts out one day later during these two weeks.

Let’s Chip In Christmas Tree Recycling Depots

Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees by dropping them off at any of the 10 Let’s Chip In depots, open from December 27, 2019, to January 31, 2020. Please remove all plastic tree bags, tinsel, decorations, and tree stands. Plastic bags and other garbage should be taken home to be disposed of and not left at the depots. Free wood chips will be available at all Let’s Chip In depots in early January (while quantities last). Please bring your own container.

Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule on:

Take a Free Ride on New Year’s Eve

Take a free bus ride this New Year’s Eve starting at 7 p.m. until the end of service. The last buses leave downtown at approximately 1:35 a.m. The free ride offer applies to all Winnipeg Transit and Handi-Transit service.

Winnipeg Public Library

Tuesday, December 24 — Closed at 1 p.m.
Wednesday, December 25 — Closed
Thursday, December 26 — Closed
Tuesday, December 31 — Closed at 5 p.m.
Wednesday, January 1, 2020 — Closed

Leisure Centres

Unless posted otherwise, regular operating hours are in effect for all Leisure Centres, with the exception of St. John’s Leisure Centre, which will be closed on December 27, 28, 30 and January 2, 2020.

Swimming Pools

Tuesday, December 24 — All pools scheduled to be open will close at noon, except for Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, which will close at 1 p.m.

Animal Services Agency

Tuesday, December 24 — Open 8:30 a.m. to noon (open 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for pick-up of impounded dogs or drop off of stray dogs only.)

Cemeteries

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. between December 24-26. Visitation on January 1 will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cemetery offices will be open until 4:30 p.m. on December 24 and closed on December 25, December 26, and January 1.
