A Winnipeg man is in police custody after allegedly robbing a home in the RM of St. Andrews on Thursday and fleeing from RCMP.

Police were called to a residence after a man was seen backing his vehicle into the garage and attempting to load items at around 10:15 p.m. He was confronted by the homeowner and a brief struggle ensued before he was able to get away.

The suspect was spotted a short time later heading south on Highway 8 towards Winnipeg. A spike belt was used after police tried unsuccessfully to pull the vehicle over.

Police say the man struggled with officers who tried to take him into custody. The suspect was injured during the ordeal and treated by EMS on scene. An officer was also injured and required treatment in hospital.

Connor Todd Sech, 25, of Winnipeg faces numerous charges and remains in custody.

Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
