A member of the Manitoba RCMP has been charged following an investigation by the province’s police watchdog.
The Independent Investigation Unit says it began looking into the arrest of a 50-year-old man that occurred on June 5, 2019. The suspect suffered sutures to a laceration on his forehead and was taken to Thompson General Hospital.
RCMP were originally responding to a call of a man causing a disturbance at the Thompson Inn.
RCMP Constable Jeremiah Dumont-Fontaine of the Thompson RCMP was charged on January 7 with assault causing bodily harm. He will appear in provincial court in Thompson on February 25, 2020.
