WINNIPEG — The University of Winnipeg Wesmen have signed a provincial MVP to their men’s volleyball roster.

Setter Alex Krykewich is the latest recruit to join the Wesmen for the 2020-21 season.

The 6’2″ Dakota Collegiate student will enroll in kinesiology and have five years of eligibility.

Krykewich already has Wesmen ties, as his father, Mike, previously coached the Wesmen baseball team.

“About two years ago in my first year of midget baseball, which was triple-A, I kinda decided that I was a lot stronger and better at volleyball, and honestly I had a lot more fun playing it,” Krykewich said.

“I really like the young talent they have here,” he added. “They’ve had a couple of really good signings the past couple of years — young guys who I have played against and played with already. I think it’s a great group of guys that I can really contribute to.”

Krykewich wasn’t only a member of the AAAA provincial champion Lancers, but the tournament MVP. He led the Lancers to a four-set win over Westwood in the provincial final in December.
