Man Charged After Swinging Machete Inside Winnipeg Bar

Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWinnipeg police have arrested a man after they say he swung a machete inside a drinking establishment on Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the Maryland Beer Store & Bar just after 4 p.m. at 740 Maryland Street, where the suspect allegedly threatened to assault patrons.

Police say he swung the machete in the direction of two people, but then hit a vacant chair, a round table and a flat-screen television with the weapon.

Officers later found the man causing a disturbance at a home in the 600 block of Victor Street. They say he was belligerent, extremely agitated and uncooperative with police.

Charles Knott of Winnipeg, 26, has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with a probation order.

Knott remains in custody.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
