Sun-seeking travellers were diverted to Winnipeg Thursday due to an unruly passenger.
The plane from London was en route to Los Cabos when it landed at Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport shortly before noon.
RCMP officers boarded the plane and arrested a 25-year-old United Kingdom man who was causing a disturbance. He is also facing additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
After the man was taken off the plane, Mounties were called back to deal with another passenger who was being unruly. The 34-year-old U.K. woman wasn’t connected to the first passenger, but was also placed under arrest for causing a disturbance.
Ben James Iontton, 25, has been charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft, uttering threats, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, assaulting a police officer and mischief over $5,000.
Natalie Louise Walker, 34, was charged with mischief over $5,000 and disturbing the peace.
Both people remain in custody.
UPDATE: Wednesday, February 5 — Both Iontton and Walker have been sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $100,000 each in restitution.
