THOMPSON, Man. — An agency that investigates police actions is reviewing the death of a 44-year-old woman after her arrest by RCMP in northern Manitoba.
The Independent Investigation Unit says Mounties in Thompson responded to a call about an intoxicated person on Saturday night and arrested a woman.
The unit says she was put in a cell after she was medically cleared.
It says the woman was conscious and breathing when she was checked at 10:49 p.m.
The agency says she was found unresponsive less than an hour later and pronounced dead by paramedics.
It says a request for a civilian monitor will be made to the Manitoba Police Commission since the case involves a fatality.
Witnesses or other individuals who have information or video footage that may help the investigation are asked to come forward.
