WINNIPEG — The Exchange District BIZ is turning up the fun on winter activities this season.
Starting today, community winter programs will be in full effect at the Old Market Square community rink until February 28.
Weekly programs include community curling, a curling bonspiel, skating lessons and a DJ family skate on Saturdays with indoor activities at Across the Board Games Cafe and Toad Hall Toys.
“We have a Winnipeg winter lifestyle to celebrate,” said Lindsay Somers, community engagement and activation coordinator for the Exchange District BIZ.
“There are 14 restaurants within one block of this rink — it’s pretty cool that on your lunch break you can zip down from your office for a skate or a curling game then grab shawarma, a burger and fries, kung pao noodles, curry or a sushi burrito literally around the corner from the rink and be back at your desk within the hour.”
The nearby King’s Head Pub is sponsoring curling on the rink, where everyone can access curling rocks and brooms by popping into the club and signing out the equipment. A friendly competitive “Thursday Throw” bonspiel will run weekly and teams can register with the BIZ.
