Woman Charged in Winnipeg’s Third Homicide of the Year

Winnipeg police have made an arrest in the city’s third homicide of the year.

Greg Joseph Jr. Dumas, 33, was found deceased inside a home at 516 Alexander Avenue on January 14.

His death was ruled a homicide and police continued with their investigation.

On Tuesday, officers responded to a report of people living in a vacant home in the 300 block of Elgin Avenue.

Police located the homicide suspect within the home and placed her under arrest.

Police believe the woman had been unlawfully living at the Alexandar residence at the time of the homicide, which occurred on January 6. The two were known to each other as acquaintances when the man was fatally assaulted with a blunt instrument.

Sonya Leah-Ann Buck of Winnipeg, 34, has been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of being unlawfully in a dwelling house.

She remains in custody.
