Police Charge Alleged Winnipeg Purse-Snatchers

Winnipeg Police Logo CrestTwo men who allegedly stole purses out of shopping carts at two separate Winnipeg stores have been charged by police.

The first incident happened on January 29 at a grocery store in the 800 block of Dakota Street.

A credit card from the purse was later used at a restaurant in the 1400 block of Ellice Avenue, and a personal cheque was later fraudulently deposited at a bank in the 600 block of Notre Dame Avenue.

A second purse was taken from a shopping cart on February 1 at a store in the 1400 block of Regent Avenue West.

A credit card from the purse was later used in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

Police identified a suspect and arrested a 44-year-old Winnipeg man on Wednesday.

The same day, a 64-year-old Winnipeg man was also arrested.

Both men face several charges related to the thefts and were released on a promise to appear.
