WINNIPEG — A man has been charged after allegedly pushing a pregnant woman to the ground and assaulting her.
Police say both the victim and suspect were intoxicated in the 200 block of Smith Street Monday evening when an argument broke out. Police say the suspect took out an edged weapon and threatened the victim and her unborn child. The woman was then pushed to the ground and physically assaulted numerous times.
Police cadets in the area witnessed the altercation and stopped the assault. Officers attended and took the suspect into custody.
The woman was treated by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and then transported to the Health Sciences Centre. Her condition is unknown.
A 24-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and three counts of failing to comply with a court order.
He remains in custody.
