Winnipeg police officers witnessed a man wielding an axe towards a woman outside of their headquarters building on Thursday night.
Officers were exiting the Smith Street building at around 7 p.m. when they saw a man and woman involved in a verbal argument. Tensions soon escalated when the man swung the weapon at the woman — as well as nearby pedestrians — and began chasing her northbound on Smith Street.
Police were able to contain the suspect at Smith Street and York Avenue, where a Taser was used to safely take him into custody. Nobody was physically injured during the incident.
Ethan Joseph Muswagon, 22, of Winnipeg has been charged with several offences and remains in custody.
