The City of Winnipeg will still require the public to wear face masks in its facilities and vehicles, including Winnipeg Transit.
As of Saturday, the province-wide mask mandate is no longer in effect, leaving it up to individual businesses and organizations to require masks.
In Winnipeg, that means all city-operated fitness facilities, aquatic facilities, and libraries will still require masks for entry.
“The authority to mandate the use of face masks in city-operated facilities is within the existing authority of the Chief Administrative Officer,” the city said in a release. “The Director of Winnipeg Transit has authority to require face masks on Winnipeg Transit vehicles, including Winnipeg Transit Plus vehicles.”
The city says it will be increasing the capacity in its facilities over the coming weeks.
