A Thompson man has been charged after he allegedly struck two young girls with his car while impaired behind the wheel.

Manitoba RCMP say the incident happened August 28 on Station Road, when the two children were walking on a sidewalk with their father.

The man allegedly struck the children and fled the scene on foot. Bystanders who witnessed the collision were able to apprehend the suspect until police arrived.

A two-year-old was treated and released on scene by paramedics and the four-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening physical injuries.

Jaden Kenneth Pittman, 36, was arrested and charged for impaired driving and other offences after providing breath samples three times the legal limit.

Thompson RCMP continue to investigate.
