Xplornet Communications has acquired Steinbach-based Internet service provider Swift High Speed.
The deal, announced on Thursday, will see the New Brunswick company take over the more than 6,000 customers across rural southeastern Manitoba who currently use Swift High Speed.
Xplornet will also acquire 218 kilometres of fibre optic network and 119 broadcast tower locations.
“As part of this acquisition, Swift High Speed is splitting off its employees and equipment and will launch a new service based fibre optic installation business under the name of Swift Underground with the same ownership group,” a press release said.
Xplornet is investing $40 million to expand broadband services to more than 14,000 homes in Manitoba, with over 7,000 new homes having access to fibre-to-the-home services.
