Winnipeg Jets‘ head coach Rick Bowness is taking a leave from the NHL club after his wife fell ill on Sunday.
The team says in a statement that Rick’s wife, Judy Bowness, suffered a seizure yesterday evening. She is currently undergoing further testing in hospital.
Associate coach Scott Arniel is taking over head coaching duties until Bowness returns.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Judy and Rick. Very serious and tough time for them right now,” said Arniel. “Everybody is certainly feeling it.
“It’s family here. It’s part of what we talk about all of the time. It really hits everyone hard.”
The Jets are asking for everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this time.
Bowness has a 48-35-3 record since becoming Winnipeg’s coach ahead of the 2022-23 season.
