WINNIPEG — The 53rd annual Folklorama festival officially kicks off this weekend, bringing a vibrant celebration of multiculturalism to the city.
The two-week event, known as the world’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival, begins its festivities on Sunday to showcase the rich diversity of Winnipeg’s cultural communities.
“Your neighbours look forward to welcoming you into their Pavilions to share aspects of their intangible culture and traditions,” said Folklorama executive director Teresa Cotroneo. “I encourage you to be curious, explore the captivating arts and cuisine that enrich our lives year-round and most of all, have fun!”
There are 38 pavilions this year (19 in each week), including two new additions — the Ghana and Latin American pavilions.
Proceeds generated within each pavilion are reinvested into their respective ethnocultural communities.
Folklorama runs August 4-17. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Folklorama.ca.
