The Winnipeg Goldeyes‘ season ended in heartbreak Tuesday night as the Kane County Cougars completed a sweep in the Miles Wolff Cup Final, winning 5-3 to claim the American Association championship. The Goldeyes fought hard but were unable to stop the undefeated Cougars, who went 7-0 in the postseason.
The game was a back-and-forth battle. Winnipeg tied the score in the sixth inning, but Kane County pulled ahead in the seventh with two key RBI singles. A last-ditch Goldeyes rally in the ninth fell short, as Cougars’ closer Tyler Beardsley shut down the comeback attempt.
Despite the loss, the Goldeyes’ 2024 season marked a remarkable turnaround from their last-place finish in 2023, highlighted by a division title and a deep playoff run. The Kane County Cougars claimed their first Miles Wolff Cup since joining the league in 2021.
