WINNIPEG — Residents across much of Manitoba may experience disruptions in community health services next week if planned job action by CUPE and MGEU-affiliated staff proceeds.
The strike, set to begin on October 8 at 6 a.m., would impact home care services and clinic appointments in the Winnipeg, Interlake-Eastern, Prairie Mountain, and Southern Health-Santé Sud regions. The Northern Health Region wouldn’t be impacted. Health system employers remain in negotiations with both unions in hopes of reaching an agreement and preventing the strike.
Shared Health says essential services agreements will be implemented to ensure ongoing vital care, including priority home care, but clients should expect potential delays or service cancellations. Affected clients have already been notified, and care plans are being reviewed to prioritize essential services.
Families and caregivers are encouraged to plan for additional support if needed during the potential disruption.
For each region, clients and/or their loved ones are asked to call:
- Winnipeg: your case coordinator;
- Interlake-Eastern: 204-785-5577;
- Prairie Mountain: 1-855-474-3338; and
- Southern: 204-346-6135.
Other community health services will continue as planned, but clients can expect disruptions or delays if a strike occurs.
