Manitobans could soon be paying more for natural gas, if the Public Utilities Board of Manitoba approves a rate application.
Centra Gas Manitoba Inc., a subsidiary of Manitoba Hydro, has filed the application for an average natural gas rate increase of 4.5 percent starting November 1, 2024.
If approved, a typical residential customer could see their monthly bill rise by about 3.9 percent, or roughly $2 per month.
This is Centra’s first general rate application since 2018. The company cites the need to cover operational costs and maintain the natural gas system as key reasons for the increase. The application does not impact gas commodity rates, which are adjusted separately.
The application can be viewed online.
