The City of Winnipeg will begin its controlled burn program of natural areas beginning today.
Weather permitting, the seasonal effort in preserving and restoring prairies will continue until November 14.
The city says its crews will only conduct the burns when wind conditions are suitable and with appropriate fire guards in place.
Without the burns, weeds invade endangered plant communities.
The controlled burn program has been conducted on tall grass prairies since 1986.
