Winnipeg police are investigating a carjacking that occurred early Sunday at the intersection of Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue.

Around 2 a.m., a 39-year-old man was attacked while waiting for a friend. The suspect reportedly opened the driver’s side door, sprayed the victim with bear spray, and forcibly removed him and his dog from the vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene in the victim’s car, running him over as they drove away.

The victim sustained minor injuries from both the bear spray and the impact, and was treated at the scene by paramedics. Police later located the abandoned vehicle on Edmonton Street.

Due to the sudden nature of the attack, the victim couldn’t provide a detailed description of the suspect, but a witness described the assailant as a man about 5’8” tall.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Winnipeg police at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
