Steinbach Credit Union has confirmed an incident involving its phone system, where calls to its member contact centre were redirected to an unauthorized third party.

The issue, attributed to an error by SCU’s telephone service provider, has since been resolved, with the system now re-secured.

“At SCU, safeguarding our members’ information is essential to us and we take this incident very seriously,” said Glenn Friesen, CEO at SCU, in a release. “We deeply regret the concern this will inevitably cause our members. We are committed to working with impacted members and communicating updates as we know more.”

SCU says only limited data, including member names, phone numbers, and call dates, may have been exposed.

The credit union is continuing its investigation and will update members as new information emerges.
