A Winnipeg Transit supervisor was threatened with an improvised torch on Friday after waking up a sleeping passenger.

Police were called to the area of Fort Street and Graham Avenue just before 8 a.m. for the incident.

The supervisor reported that when the bus stopped, he boarded the bus in response to a man who had been sleeping on the bus for several hours. Once awake, the passenger exited the bus but then created a torch using a can of hairspray and a lighter. He aimed the weapon at the supervisor, who managed to push him to the ground and disarm him.
