Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew traded politics for pucks in the Winnipeg 150 City vs. Province Hockey Game on Saturday.
Municipal and provincial politicians laced up at the Gateway Recreation Centre for the fun event. The game celebrated the city’s 150th anniversary and echoed a similar matchup during Winnipeg’s centennial in 1974.
The friendly competition saw the mayor, city councillors, and city staff go up against the premier, provincial MLAs, and employees.
The city took the game with a 6-0 shutout and earned the Legislators Hockey Trophy as the top prize.
The hockey game was one of several events planned as part of the Winnipeg 150 celebrations.
