The Winnipeg Police Service has announced its “Safe Shop” campaign to ensure safety in retail spaces during the busy holiday season.

An increased police presence, including uniformed officers and major crimes division members, will be visible in key shopping areas to deter theft and respond swiftly to incidents.

“Retail theft and related incidents have a significant impact on our community, and we’re taking proactive steps to address these challenges,” police said in a release.

The initiative encourages collaboration between shoppers, retailers, and law enforcement. Shoppers are advised to stay alert and secure valuables, while retailers are reminded to prioritize safety and report non-emergency thefts online. Further safety tips can be found on the WPS website.
