A Manitoba man faces multiple charges following a standoff with police that began with a report of impaired driving and ended with the seizure of an air pistol.
RCMP were called on Saturday morning for a report of a potential impaired driver whose vehicle was stuck in a ditch on Highway 5 near Ste Rose du Lac. The driver managed to free the vehicle before police arrived and was reported heading toward Ebb and Flow First Nation.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply, and police didn’t engage the suspect. The vehicle was later found parked at a residence in Bacon Ridge Settlement.
As officers approached, a 47-year-old man exited the home armed with what appeared to be a handgun, pointed it at an officer, and then returned inside. Police subsequently determined the weapon was an air pistol. The suspect, identified as Michael Houle, was arrested at the scene.
Houle has been charged with several offences and remains in custody pending a court appearance in Dauphin.
Police continue to investigate.
