Winnipeg police have charged a man following an assault on a transit supervisor on Tuesday night.
Officers were called to the Osborne Street and Bartlett Avenue area around 7:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 report of an assault aboard a stopped transit bus.
According to police, the incident began when the last remaining passenger on the bus, later identified as 21-year-old Randy Clark Perkin of Winnipeg, allegedly began behaving erratically. Witnesses reported that he was swearing, clenching his fists, and repeatedly ringing the bell without disembarking.
The driver stopped the bus and called for assistance. A transit supervisor and another employee boarded the vehicle to help. Without warning, Perkin allegedly swung at the supervisor. The employees restrained him and escorted him off the bus while awaiting police.
The victim was not injured in the incident.
Perkin was arrested and charged with assault. He remains in custody.
