WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government will build a new K-8 school in Winnipeg’s Devonshire Park neighbourhood to accommodate the area’s growing population.
The school, set to open in September 2027, will include 74 child-care spaces and address an 11 percent rise in student enrolment in the River East Transcona School Division since 2019. Design work will begin in the coming months, with construction expected to start in early 2026.
“Investing in our kids by giving them new schools with the best educators will set them up for success in the future,” said Premier Wab Kinew during Monday’s announcement. “This is an investment in the future of Manitoba – in kids, in families and in this great community.”
The province also announced is it increasing school operating funding for the upcoming school year by 3.4 percent — the same increase as the current year.
The province says it’s also adding $6.8 million to its $30-million school nutrition program.
