Two people were sent to hospital Wednesday afternoon after a residential fire in the North End.

Winnipeg firefighters were called to a two-storey blaze in the 300 block of St. John’s Avenue at 1:30 p.m.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the home and launched an interior attack. The blaze was deemed extinguished at 2:24 p.m.

Everyone inside self-evacuated before firefighters arrived. Two people were assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. One cat was located deceased in the house.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.

Damage estimates aren’t available.
