The Forks is inviting local emerging artists to apply for a new public art commission at Railside, its mixed-use residential development.

This is the second of two public art calls, following the selection of established artist Ian August in 2023.

August will mentor the chosen emerging artist through the final design and fabrication process. Up to three finalists will be selected through a request for qualifications (RFQ) process before a final artist is chosen.

“Public art changes and engages a space. It attracts people and strengthens a person’s relationship with their environment,” said Sara Stasiuk, CEO, The Forks. “As we build Railside we are building a place for people, and this means building more of The Forks, and more of The Forks means more public art.”

The project is in partnership with STEPS Public Art, a national organization focused on inclusive public art initiatives. The artwork will be installed upon the completion of Railside’s public courtyards and spaces, supported by a $200,000 grant from The Winnipeg Foundation.

The budget for the art project is $150,000 with the deadline to apply set for May 4, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Further details can be found at railsideattheforks.com.
