Manitoba officials have identified one of two sets of human remains found at Prairie Green Landfill.
The province and RCMP said Friday night that the remains are those of Morgan Harris of Long Plain First Nation.
“Her family has been notified and the Manitoba government continues to ask that the family’s privacy be respected,” the province said in a release.
The remains of Harris and Marcedes Myran, two Indigenous women who were slain by a serial killer, were believed to have been dumped at the site just north of Winnipeg.
Identification of the second set of remains is ongoing and hasn’t been confirmed to be those of Myran.
“As facts are confirmed, relevant authorities will provide further information,” the province said.
Jeremy Skibicki was convicted last summer of first-degree murder in the 2022 slayings of four women.
Skibicki was convicted in the killings of Harris, 39; Myran, 26; Rebecca Contois, 24; and an unidentified woman an Indigenous grassroots community has named Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe, or Buffalo Woman.
“We found my mother,” Cambria Harris posted online after the announcement.
“Please keep our families in your hearts tonight and every day going forward as we trust this process.”
