Winnipeg police have arrested a woman after a dispute over a parking spot escalated into a hit-and-run incident on Saturday.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to a parking lot in the 1200 block of St. James Street, where a woman in her 30s had been struck by an SUV. Police say the victim was standing in an open parking spot, waiting for her family to arrive, when another driver confronted her over saving the space. The driver then accelerated into the spot, knocking the woman down and trapping her under the front tires.

The suspect fled the scene, leaving the victim on the ground. She was taken to the hospital with lower-body injuries but is in stable condition.

Police later identified and arrested a 40-year-old woman, who has been charged with assault with a weapon and careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. She was released on an Undertaking.
