Winnipeg police have charged a 63-year-old Minnesota man following a multi-vehicle collision caused by an alleged impaired driver at the intersection of Waverley Street and Perimeter Highway South.
The crash occurred around 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, when the driver of a 2021 Honda Ridgeline, travelling east on the Perimeter Highway, failed to stop at the Waverley Street intersection. The vehicle struck another car from behind, triggering a chain-reaction collision.
A young female passenger in the impacted vehicle sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Police identified the driver as David Nelson Fournier of St. Paul, Minnesota. After being assessed by paramedics, he was taken into custody and charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
Fournier remains in custody as the investigation continues.
