Richard Hall of Ile-des-Chenes is $1 million richer after winning the Gold Ball prize in the April 12 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Hall said he initially ignored the email notification, assuming it was a free play.
“When I finally opened it, it had a strange screen I had never seen before,” he said in a release. “It had a one with a bunch of zeroes and I thought, ‘What the heck is this?!’”
Hall quickly shared the news with his wife, telling her, “I think I’m a millionaire.” Her response: “Oh get out of here!”
The win carries extra meaning for Hall, who used to play Lotto 6/49 with his late father.
“My dad always played,” he explained. “He always thought he’d win and he passed away a few years back.”
Hall said the family plans to save and invest most of the prize, but also hopes to build a backyard pool for the grandkids to enjoy.
