The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating an incident involving a man who sustained serious injuries during an arrest in Winnipeg.
On May 23, Winnipeg police officers stopped a male cyclist in the 500 block of Spence Street and observed an edged weapon in his pocket.
The man was arrested for possessing a weapon but fled while being escorted to a cruiser. He was grazed by a vehicle at the intersection of Young Street and Sargent Avenue before a physical confrontation with police resulted in him falling and injuring his jaw.
The man was taken to hospital with a chin laceration and two hairline jaw fractures.
The IIU is now investigating. Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
