Manitoba RCMP are investigating after a suspicious device resembling a pipe bomb was discovered inside a dorm room at an educational facility in Cranberry Portage.

Staff preparing for students’ return on Monday — following a community evacuation on May 31 — found the device around 9:20 a.m. and contacted police.

The RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit examined the object, described as a metal pipe with tape, and safely destroyed it at a remote site. It was later confirmed to contain no explosive materials.

Cranberry Portage RCMP continue to investigate.
