Signage is now up for the first Jimmy John’s American sandwich chain to open in Winnipeg.

White Spruce Partners has secured a multi-store area development deal with Foodtastic to franchise Jimmy John’s across Manitoba, with the first location at 1740 Pembina Highway. The restaurant is targeting an early fall 2025 opening. A second city location will open at 1430 Ellice Avenue.

The Pembina restaurant will also be the first Jimmy John’s in Canada to feature a drive-thru.

“Bringing the first Jimmy John’s drive-thru in Canada to Winnipeg is an exciting milestone,” said local franchisee Derek Nieroda. “The excitement from the community has been incredible, and we can’t wait to open our doors this fall.”

The chain made its Canadian debut in Toronto when it opened last year. Jimmy John’s was founded in 1983 in Charleston, Illinois, by Jimmy John Liautaud, growing from a college-town sandwich shop into a major U.S. sub chain known for its “freaky fast” delivery.

Nieroda and general manager, Mark Beyer, are planning for several more franchise locations in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas in the coming years.

Shindico Realty is handling the multi-year lease at the Pembina location.

President Sandy Shindleman says his company “is proud to bring Jimmy John’s to the Manitoba market.”

“This flagship location reinforces our commitment to working with best-in-class brands and delivering high-profile sites that support long-term growth,” Shindleman said in a statement.
