A 33-year-old man is facing multiple charges after assaulting a police officer during an arrest early Friday in Dauphin.

RCMP were called to a William Street residence around 12:15 a.m. for a report of an unwanted person. The female resident was unharmed but visibly upset and identified the male suspect, known to officers.

Police located the man, identified as Sheldon McKinney, who fled on foot. Using a drone, officers found him in a back alley, where he then charged at an officer. A Taser was deployed and the suspect was arrested without injury after a brief struggle.

McKinney has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order, resisting a peace officer, and assaulting a police officer. He remains in custody.
