Winnipeg Sea Bears forward Emmanuel Akot is expected to be in the lineup Friday when the team faces the Calgary Surge in the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s Western Conference Final.
Akot recently played for South Sudan at the AfroBasket tournament before beginning his return trip to Winnipeg this week.
“From every corner of this organization we want to do what’s best for the team, and having Emman with us is best for the team,” said general manager and head coach Mike Taylor.
“We’re glad he’s coming back and can’t wait for him to rejoin his teammates here.”
Akot’s temporary departure earlier this month created tension after South Sudan’s federation failed to provide the Sea Bears with proper notice of his national team call-up, prompting an apology to the Winnipeg club.
The playoff game tips off Friday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Canada Life Centre. Due to strong ticket demand, the upper bowl has been opened to fans.
