Winnipeg firefighters tackled two separate blazes on Thursday, including one that sent multiple people to hospital.

Firefighters first responded to a monitored alarm at a three-storey apartment building on Qu’Appelle Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Three residents were assessed by paramedics, with two taken to hospital in stable condition. Several cats were also rescued, and emergency social services helped displaced tenants. Investigators believe the fire was accidental, linked to an electrical appliance.

Earlier in the afternoon, crews were called to a vacant warehouse fire in the 600 block of Keewatin Street. Heavy smoke and flames forced firefighters to shift from an interior to a defensive attack before the blaze was extinguished at 7:41 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
